Who were you Kelly Family? se presenta como un documental – road movie que va más allá de la simple hagiografía de un grupo musical para meterse en una historia humana de autosuperación y búsqueda de un camino propio, con sus momentos de aprendizaje, de euforia y caída.

 

 

Sinopsis:

 

En 1994, una banda irrumpió con fuerza en el mercado musical europeo, vendiendo más de 4 millones de discos de un sólo LP en un año. Un grupo con una estética muy diferente a la predominancia de ‘boy bands’ que abundaba en los años 90. Eran 9 hermanos con el pelo largo, vestidos como si fueran hippies, tocando ellos mismos todos los instrumentos y bailando sin un orden aparentemente preestablecido sobre el escenario. 

 

¿De dónde salían? ¿Era un grupo prefabricado o era real esa libertad que destilaban en escena?

 

Poco a poco fuimos descubriendo que se trataba de una familia de músicos nómadas que llevaban desde niños tocando y cantando a lo largo y ancho de toda Europa, acompañados de sus padres: en bares, en las calles, en circos, en televisión, viviendo en un autobús, en un barco…Hasta que en 1994 llegó el gran éxito, y con él, varios años después tras toda una vida juntos, las desavenencias. ¿Qué fue de ellos? ¿Dónde están ahora? ¿Cómo afectó este tipo de infancia nómada y musical a su vida presente?

 

El documental ‘Who were you, Kelly Family?’ pretende llevar a cabo un acercamiento a la historia de una familia de músicos que se hizo a sí misma desde la nada. Un viaje vital por Europa siguiendo sus pasos para intentar reconstruir, como un puzzle, una historia excepcional contada desde diferentes puntos de vista, no sólo desde los propios miembros de la banda. De este modo podremos dar una visión más objetiva y prismática de su periplo vital hasta la actualidad y mostrar al público una apasionante historia sobre música, vida y libertad. ¿O no?

 

En definitiva, la libertad que simbolizaban estos elementos, estos viajes, se convierten aquí en la metáfora de una búsqueda de la esencia humana. La esencia de una familia que se hizo a sí misma a partir de la nada y, al mismo tiempo, una búsqueda nuestra personal, como creadoras, de un tiempo perdido: un viaje de vuelta hacia un pasado donde todo era sencillo y en el que soñábamos con que era posible ser libre al “hacerse mayor”.

 

El viaje como hilo argumental entorno al cual ir desgranando el sentido de la existencia.

 

 

 

Synopsis:

 

In 1994, a band burst upon the European music market selling more than 4 million copies of a single EP in a year. A band with a different aesthetic from the 'boy bands' that were plentiful in the 90's. 9 blonde long-haired siblings, dressed up as hippies, playing all the instruments themselves and dancing apparently with no pre-established order over stage.

 

Where did they come from? Was it another marketing product or was the freedom they showed on stage real?

 

Little by little we discovered it was actually a family of nomadic musicians who had been performing all around Europe since childhood -in bars, on the streets, on TV, in circuses- and who had been living on a bus and even on a boat.

 

In 1994, after a whole life working together, they finally achieved success but this eventually brought disputes. What happened with them? Where are they now? How did that nomadic and musical childhood affect their current lives?

 

The documentary “Who were you Kelly Family?” aims at approaching to the history of a family of musicians who made themselves out of nothing. It is a life journey around Europe that will track the steps of the band in order to reconstruct the puzzle of an exceptional story. This will be narrated through different points of view from within and from without the band. That way we will be able to give a more objective and plural view of their life journey showing the audience a fascinating story about music, life and freedom. Or not? 

 

In conclusion, that freedom, those journeys, here turns into a metaphor about the search for human essence. The essence of this family that made itself out of nothing and at the same time, the essence of our personal search, as creators, of a lost time. This documentary is a journey that brings us back to that past when everything seemed easier and in which we dreamt of being able to be free when growing up.

 

In other words, the journey is the storyline around which we will disentangle the meaning of existence.
